British Hypertension Society guidelines for the management of hypertension have recently been changed to be in line with European guidelines. Drugs that are used to treat hypertension include diuretics, ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor antagonists, β-blockers, calcium channel blockers, α acting antihypertensives. Groups of drugs are described together with their relevant therapeutic indications because often the same drugs are used for different conditions. Cardiac glycosides are used to treat cardiac failure and atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation.
